Shaswar Abdulwahid, leader of the New Generation Movement, stated the meeting with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) was “very successful," and they are scheduled to meet again to rewrite the points of the agreement they reached. 

During a press conference on Tuesday after meeting with PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani in Sulaymaniyah, Abdulwahid said in the second meeting they discussed the formation of the government and the reform projects presented by the New Generation Movement.

He noted that the agreement with PUK is about "the way of governance in Kurdistan," adding that the movement's project focuses on transparency, revitalizing institutions, and improving people's lives.

Abdulwahid mentioned that he expects the agreement to be implemented soon.

Regarding the recent talks with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the movement leader remarked that they are aware of the meeting.

Abdulwahid Urges Opposition Parties to Join Agreement 

Abdulwahid previously called upon other opposition parties to join and return the balance to governance in the Kurdistan region and criticized the party for holding senior posts of government.

He emphasized that if other forces join the agreement, a majority can be formed to select the Kurdistan Regional Government’s prime minister, criticizing opposition forces for not being willing to join the coalition.

"Any political force that does not respond to our call means that it agrees to the KDP holding the post of prime minister...and not to change the government," he added.

 Possibility of Cooperation in Baghdad

The leader also highlighted that both his movement and PUK can work together in Baghdad and reach an agreement. 

PUK Official calls the talks constructive

After the meeting, Shalaw Kosrat Rasul, a member of the PUK Political Bureau, also affirmed that the talks were constructive. 

Abdulwahid and Talabani met in Mid-January 

Abdulwahid and Talabani met in mid-January, and both announced an agreement to unite their parliamentary factions in Kurdistan.

Abdulwahid said his movement has a comprehensive plan to pass the budget law, balance power, promote good governance, and reactivate parliament.

Confidence in PUK's Commitment

He told reporters on Saturday that they have an understanding with the party and believe that the PUK is “very serious” about the joint project of the two parties for a balanced governance.
