The National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Committee approved the report draft regarding the peace process by majority vote. Meanwhile, Abdullah Ocalan, imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), stressed that the report “must be consistent with fundamental social realities.”

The parliament committee, which was formed in August last year within the framework of the peace process ongoing since late 2024, approved the report by a majority of 47 members out of 51 members.

The report comprises seven sections and spans 60 pages, and it will be submitted to the Turkish Parliament.

It does not explicitly address the "right to hope," Kurdish language, identity, or cultural rights.

Additionally, the report includes a section focused on the disarmament and disbandment of the PKK.

Ocalan issues a message via Imrali Delegation

The Imrali delegation, including Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, and Ocalan’s lawyer, Faik Ozgur Erol, held a meeting on Monday with Ocalan that lasted three and a half hours and issued a statement today in which they delivered the message of the PKK leader to the public.

Ocalan said in the message that “a policy approach based on the logic of 'eliminating terrorism' is not a solution but rather an expression of intractability."

He emphasized that "the Peace and Democratic Society Process” is an ongoing effort that continuously reevaluates itself and adjusts its strategies and tactics accordingly.

“The process leading to the founding of the Republic was built on Turkish-Kurdish unity. Although it was later changed, traces of this can be seen in all documents,” he added.

Advocates for Rights, Democratic Society and Peaceful Coexistence

Ocalan stressed that individuals should freely express their religion, language, and identity, asserting that no one should impose their nationality on others if they cannot do so with religion or language.

He underscored the goal of living as a democratic society with peace as a central focus and the importance of building democratic institutions.

Importance of Local Democracy for Kurds in Syria

The PKK leader further addresses the issue of Kurds in Syria amid recent developments and agreements between Rojava authorities and Damascus. "The spirit of democratic integration is embodied in the existence and institutionalization of local democracy. This is what we propose for Syria as well. By local democracy, I mean this: a city or village should have the right to freely express itself and govern itself. 

He stated that these proposals consider the rights and existence of not only Kurds but also all other peoples and religious communities in their respective regions.

Commitment to Democratic Politics and Broader Political Engagement

Ocalan said that they have abandoned weapons and violence and "will pursue a tremendous democratic politics.”

"Our issue has a security dimension, but it has a broader political dimension. Because we will engage in politics,” he remarked.
