Aram Mohammed, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government, announced a decision to grant a 20% discount on tuition fees for universities and colleges.

The announcement follows an extraordinary meeting of the Ministry Council of Higher Education and Scientific Research on Thursday, where Minister Mohammed presented the proposal for the tuition fee reduction.

Tuition Discount to Support Citizens and Students

Mohammed noted that in the public interest and considering the financial situation of citizens, the families of students, and the circumstances the Kurdistan Region has faced, despite the previous reduction, they decided to grant the discount on tuition fees for universities and colleges.

20% Tuition Discount for 2025-2026 Higher Education

According to the ministry’s decision, students must pay all remaining tuition installments by May 3, 2026. This 20% discount covers all levels of higher education for the 2025-2026 academic year, including:

  • Study Types: Morning and evening programs.
  • Degree Levels: Higher Diploma, Master's, and Doctorate (Ph.D.).

Major Tuition Fee Discounts Implemented at Public and Private Universities

Previously, the ministry decided to discount tuition fees at public universities and colleges for all levels by 45% and at private universities and colleges by 10% to 25%.

This was based on the results of the latest national ranking of Kurdistan's universities and was for the entire term of the ninth cabinet of the government.
