Nouri al-Maliki, Head of the State of Law Coalition, denounced the attacks on the residences of Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, and Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), stating the actions go beyond individual harm, threatening Iraq’s security, stability, and national unity.

5 drone attacks targeted locations in Duhok on Saturday, including the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, without any reported casualties.

Meanwhile, KDP President revealed that since the outbreak of the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran on February 28, their headquarters have been attacked five times, “but we have remained silent to avoid causing panic and anger among the public.”

The drone attack prompted swift condemnation from leaders and officials within the Kurdistan Region and neighboring countries and international and regional actors, who unanimously regarded it as a dangerous escalation.

Following the attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ordered the creation of a joint security and technical team to investigate the incident, with both the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government actively pursuing those responsible and preparing to take legal measures.

Al-Maliki Warns Attacks Threaten Iraq’s Security 

Al-Malik said in a statement on Sunday that assaults are acts that are rejected and condemned by all parties.

“These actions do not target specific individuals alone, but rather strike at the security and stability of Iraq as a whole and contribute to undermining national unity," he noted.

Calls for Unity and Solidarity to Protect Iraq’s Stability

“Today, we are in dire need of strengthening the spirit of solidarity and cohesion among the sons of the homeland, renouncing violence in all its forms,” al-Malik added.

He emphasized the importance of unity in thwarting the efforts of those seeking to undermine stability and “stir up discord” among the various components of the Iraqi people.
