The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad stated that Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq conducted two attacks to assassinate American diplomats last night, warning that it will take necessary action if the Iraqi government fails to prevent the assaults.

A spokesperson for the embassy said in a statement on Sunday that "Iraqi terrorist militias” carried out two more “heinous attacks” on U.S. diplomatic facilities.

The spokesperson noted that the recent attack is in addition to hundreds of other assaults originating from and within Iraqi territory, targeting U.S. citizens, neighboring countries, Iraqi state institutions, and civilians, including those in the Kurdistan Region, in recent weeks.

U.S. Embassy Urges Iraqi Government to Stop Attacks

The embassy called on the Iraqi government to "immediately fulfill its responsibility to stop the attacks and prevent terrorist militias from using Iraqi territory to launch attacks."

“We will not hesitate to defend our personnel and facilities if the Iraqi government fails to meet its obligations," the statement added.

The Embassy also announced rewards of up to $3 million for information leading to the identification or location of groups responsible for attacks on diplomatic facilities.

Ongoing Regina conflict and escalation in Iraq conflict

The U.S. Embassy’s accusation that Iran-aligned militias attempted to assassinate American diplomats marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Since hostilities began in late February, the embassy in Baghdad has faced repeated assaults, including a missile strike on its helipad in mid-March.

As the conflict enters its sixth week, Iraq has emerged as a central battlefield; the Kurdistan Region alone has endured more than 500 drone and missile strikes during this period.
