The Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) in Erbil announced that an Iranian explosive-laden drone claimed the lives of a married couple in a village in Erbil early Tuesday morning.

According to the directorate's statement, the attack occurred at 00:15 and was directed from Iran. It struck a house in Zargazawi village, resulting in the martyrdom of Musa Anwar Rasoul and Mzhda Asaad Hassan.

“These attacks violate international law and are war crimes, and we condemn them in the strongest terms,” CTD stressed.

Relative Describes Drone Attack

A relative of the victims told Channel8 that one of the drones flew over their house and landed nearby, while another drone struck the residence, entering through the window, adding that their children are safe.

Another relative of the married couple, speaking to Channel8, noted that the drone strike targeted their bedroom while they were asleep.

He said his brother was also martyred in the fight against ISIS several years ago. "They were innocent, and this is injustice."

Kurdistan Region Faces Rising Civilian and Military Casualties

Since the outbreak of the US-Israel-Iran conflict in late February, the Kurdistan Region has faced hundreds of drone and missile attacks primarily targeting Erbil, resulting in a rising toll of civilian and military casualties.

In the deadliest incident during the current conflict, a barrage of ballistic missiles struck the Peshmerga’s 7th Infantry Division headquarters in Erbil's Soran district on March 24, claiming the lives of six Peshmerga and wounding 30 others.
