International flights resumed at Jalal Talabani International Airport in Sulaymaniyah on Monday, marking a gradual return to normal operations after a suspension caused by regional military tensions.

The first inbound flight, operated by Royal Jordanian Airlines, arrived from Amman at 3:15 a.m., while the first outbound flight to the Jordanian capital departed at 5:45 a.m., airport officials said.

Flights had been temporarily halted across parts of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region due to the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which disrupted regional airspace and travel.

The suspension had a financial impact on the aviation sector, with airlines and transport companies reporting losses. Industry estimates indicated that the cancellation of a single flight cost Iraqi carriers around $450, while airport revenues and service providers were also affected.

The disruption extended to the tourism sector, where hundreds of companies faced operational shutdowns. Official data shows that more than 800 tourism-related businesses in the Kurdistan Region were impacted by the closure of airspace and travel restrictions.

The resumption of flights in Sulaymaniyah is expected to support a gradual recovery in aviation and tourism activity, easing pressure on businesses affected by the recent disruptions.
