Iraqi President Nizar Amedi visited the mausoleum of the late President Jalal Talabani in Sulaymaniyah to pay tribute to his legacy and pledged to uphold the "principles and paths" established by the late leader, whom he described as a foundational inspiration for the country’s future.

Writing a message in the site's Memorial Book, President Amedi noted that the Iraqi Parliament has entrusted him with the role of President and expressed confidence that Mam Jalal is “pleased" with his inauguration.

He stressed that the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are in “good situations” despite ongoing challenges, and he aims to continue the principles established by Mam Jalal and other leaders.

During the visit, he told Channel8 that he has been “with Mam Jalal my entire life” as he was “a great leader of Iraq."

He emphasized that the path he charted in Iraq is "unforgettable," adding that he paved the way for other Kurds and Iraqi leaders to progress the country.

The President also stated that he intends to visit his burial site regularly and honor the legacy left behind by the individual.

President Amedi’s full entry in the Memorial Book reads as follows:

"Dear Mam (Uncle), Father, Teacher, President, and Inspiration, Mam Jalal,

Your pure soul is always with us, and we visit the place where your pure body rests.

He stated “I want to announce to you that the Iraqi Parliament has entrusted me to serve as President. I am confident you are happy about this event. I ask Almighty God to give me strength and to make your soul my companion in this important task, so that I can relive some of what you did and knew about managing power.

Iraq is in a good situation and will remain so, and Kurdistan is also in a good situation. There have always been obstacles and challenges facing Iraq and Kurdistan. But the principles and paths you established with Iraqi leaders will remain our way of carrying out our work."
