The UAE Ministry of Defense stated that multiple missiles were launched from Iran, while the Iranian army claimed to have fired missiles to repel U.S. destroyers attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz.

Amid escalating regional tensions near the strait, the United States announced Project Freedom earlier to help stranded ships leave the waterway.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned that any interference with the operation will be "dealt with forcefully."

UAE Intercepts Three of Four Iranian-Launched Missiles

The UAE Ministry of Defense said on Monday that four cruise missiles launched from Iran were detected heading towards various regions.

“Three were successfully engaged over the country's territorial waters, while one fell in the sea,” the ministry added.

Iran Claims U.S. Destroyer Approached Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, Iranian military commander Amir Hatami claimed that a U.S. destroyer approached the Strait of Hormuz with its radar deactivated, prompting an Iranian missile response.

Hatami emphasized that cruise missiles and combat drones have been deployed, asserting that regional security is “a red line” for the country.

U.S. Navy Guided-Missile Destroyers Operate in Gulf

Earlier today, U.S. Central Command announced that guided-missile destroyers are currently operating in the Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, Iranian state media reported that the Iranian navy fired warning shots at U.S. warships in the waterway.

The increasing tensions in the strategic waterway occur amidst a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, alongside ongoing diplomatic negotiations aimed at securing a permanent regional peace agreement.
