KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said the Kurdistan Region participated in the Cannes Film Festival for the second consecutive year, describing the event as part of broader efforts to strengthen Kurdistan’s film industry and international cultural engagement.

In a statement, Talabani said the Kurdistan Film Commission announced what he described as the largest film fund in the history of Kurdistan during the festival.

Push for International Film Cooperation

Talabani said the initiative aims to attract international production companies to the Kurdistan Region and expand collaboration between Kurdish filmmakers and global cinema institutions.

“We aim to open Kurdistan’s doors to international production companies and foster collaboration between Kurdish filmmakers and global cinema centers, ensuring our stories reach the world through film,” Talabani said.

‘Kurdistan Is More Than Conflict’

Talabani said the Kurdistan Region used its presence at the festival to present a broader image of Kurdistan beyond conflict and instability.

“In Cannes, our message was clear: Kurdistan is more than the conflicts and tragedies it has endured,” he said.

“This land is a home for creativity, resilience, and extraordinary stories.”

Focus on Development Despite Challenges

Talabani added that Kurdistan continues to pursue development and innovation despite regional instability.

“Even in times of war and instability, we have chosen the path of building and innovation,” he said.
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world’s leading cinema events and has increasingly become a platform for countries and regions seeking to promote cultural industries and attract international productions.
