While presenting certificates of appreciation to the individuals and employees who participated in the recent cleanup campaign at Dukan Dam, Dukan District Governor Sirwan Sarhad told Channel8 that more than 120 tons of dirt and debris were removed from the area over the course of eight days.

Large-Scale Cleanup Campaign at Dukan Dam

The cleanup campaign has been underway since early May with the participation of the Sulaymaniyah and Dukan administrations, as well as the Defense and Emergency Forces Command.

The effort also involved the municipality, civil defense and tourism authorities, the forestry and environment police, and the Anzu company.

The campaign was launched following a Channel8 report on the declining water level at Dukan Dam, which revealed large amounts of debris and pollution around the Dukan Bellmouth area.

The report prompted public reactions and calls from citizens for the site to be cleaned.

Call to Protect the Environment

Sarhad also appealed to citizens and tourists through Channel8 to help keep the environment clean and to recognize the efforts of workers who, in addition to their regular duties, spent the past eight days cleaning the dam area.
