The Kurdistan Region, and specifically the province of Sulaymaniyah, has firmly established itself as Iraq's premier industrial epicenter, currently accounting for nearly one-third of the entire country's industrial capacity.

Driven by a robust infrastructure, the sector continues to see sustained growth, hosting highly specialized manufacturing facilities found nowhere else in Iraq, such as advanced automotive battery production plants.

Factory Volume and Impact on Food Security

According to official statistical data, Sulaymaniyah province is home to 5,000 small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) alongside 150 heavy industrial factories. Operating across the food processing, construction materials, and manufacturing sectors, these facilities play a critical role in securing regional food security and supplying essential industrial commodities to markets across both the Kurdistan Region and greater Iraq.

Regional Industrial Distribution

Official data from the Iraqi Ministry of Planning confirms that 30% of Iraq’s total industrial sector is concentrated within the Kurdistan Region. Industrial development authorities note that Sulaymaniyah claims the lion's share of this percentage, a dominance attributed to its high concentration of operational factories and a rich abundance of natural raw materials embedded in the local geography and water supply.

Investment Volume and New Project Influx

Amanj Jalal, the Director of Investment in Sulaymaniyah, disclosed that the province secured 50 new development projects last year alone, drawing in a capital investment volume exceeding $1.807 billion. This surge in funding has allowed the province to capture 50% of the total investment capital deployed across the entire Kurdistan Region, cementing its status as an economic powerhouse.
