Visit to the Jalal Talabani Foundation in Baghdad

The President of Iraq, Nizar Amedi, visited the President Jalal Talabani Foundation in Baghdad, where he held a press conference on the sidelines of his visit. He outlined the importance of establishing the institution in the capital and its broader political and diplomatic significance.

Importance of the Foundation’s Establishment

Amedi underlined the importance of launching the foundation in Baghdad, stating that the initiative carries major national and international significance.

He said the opening of this foundation is of “great importance." Establishing this foundation in Baghdad, the capital and a crucial city where "the eyes of the entire world are on Baghdad," is highly significant. He added that it will contribute to strengthening ties between political forces, parties, and civil society organizations, while also playing a role in supporting diplomatic engagement.

Jalal Talabani’s Political Legacy

Speaking about former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Amedi stressed his central role in shaping Iraq’s modern political system.

He said Jalal Talabani “played a paramount role in Baghdad within the current political system." He described him as "one of the most prominent figures who built this political process in Iraq." Amedi further stated that Jalal Talabani is a "name and a symbol" who held immense weight not only in Iraq but also globally, leaving a distinct and lasting impact.

Support from the Iraqi Presidency

Concluding his remarks, Amedi reaffirmed the Iraqi Presidency’s backing for the foundation’s mission.

He stated that the President Jalal Talabani Foundation can play a positive role through cooperation with political forces, civil society, and the diplomatic corps, adding, as the Iraqi Presidency, we fully support this project.

Foundation Expands Presence to Baghdad to Preserve Jalal Talabani’s Legacy

The President Jalal Talabani Foundation, an independent cultural and non-governmental organization established on July 27, 2022, and headquartered in Sulaymaniyah under the leadership of Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir, officially inaugurated its new office in Baghdad on Monday as part of a broader expansion strategy aimed at preserving the political legacy of the late former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani across Iraq.
