Solar power generation in Sulaymaniyah has increased by more than five megawatts in just over a month, reflecting the growing adoption of renewable energy systems across the governorate.

According to statistics released by the Renewable Energy Department of the Technical Directorate under the General Directorate of Electricity in Sulaymaniyah, total electricity production from registered solar energy systems reached more than 96 megawatts as of June 14.

Subscriber Numbers Increase to More Than 4,000

The data show that 4,060 electricity subscribers had installed solar power systems and registered with the Renewable Energy Department by June 14. Together, these systems generated 96.140 megawatts of electricity.

The figures represent a notable increase compared with May 6, when 3,746 subscribers were registered, producing a combined 91.623 megawatts. Over the 39-day period, solar generation capacity grew by approximately 4.5 megawatts, while the number of registered subscribers increased by 314.

Residential Sector Leads Solar Expansion

Statistics from the Renewable Energy Department indicate that residential users account for the largest share of solar energy installations in Sulaymaniyah.

Of the 4,060 registered subscribers, 3,354 are residential customers, while 579 are commercial subscribers. The remaining installations include 106 agricultural subscribers, 15 industrial subscribers, and seven government entities.

Renewable Energy Sector Expands

The continued rise in both subscriber numbers and generation capacity highlights increasing interest in renewable energy solutions in Sulaymaniyah. Officials view the expansion of solar power systems as an important step toward diversifying energy sources, reducing pressure on the electricity grid, and promoting sustainable energy development across the governorate.
