The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Finance and Economy has issued a final three-month deadline for public sector employees to register for the MyAccount banking initiative, warning that Baghdad will suspend salaries for anyone without a bank card by late September.

According to an official ministry document issued Monday, the KRG and the Federal Government of Iraq have established a final three-month deadline for all beneficiaries in Kurdistan Region to complete registration for the MyAccount digital payroll framework following recent joint banking talks.

Baghdad to Freeze KRG Salaries After Sept 30 Deadline

Under the federal directive, Baghdad will suspend salary disbursements and withhold funding from the KRG for any employee failing to register and obtain a bank card by September 30.

KRG Orders Immediate Ministerial Action

The document indicates that bank card issuance requires approximately one month following registration.

Consequently, ministries must immediately direct all subordinate general directorates and departments to expedite verification measures.

This urgent initiative ensures all eligible beneficiaries complete registration and successfully receive their banking credentials within the mandated timeframe.

KRG’s MyAccount Hits 900K Ahead of Deadline

MyAccount is a digital banking and financial inclusion initiative launched in 2023 by the KRG to modernize how public sector workers receive their salaries.

The initiative has rapidly scaled to over 900,000 registered public sector workers, with nearly 800,000 employees already receiving their monthly salaries digitally.

Backed by a growing network of over 600 ATMs and seven participating banks, the program aims to completely phase out cash payrolls across the Kurdistan by its upcoming federal deadline.
