Shaswar Abdulwahid Says Premiership Should Go to New Generation-PUK Alliance
Shaswar Abdulwahid, president of the New Generation Movement, said during a press conference that his party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) believe the position of Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region should belong to their alliance.
'There Is No Government or Governance in the Kurdistan Region'
Abdulwahid argued that there is currently no effective government or governance in the Kurdistan Region, stating that the current prime minister remains in office without legal legitimacy.
Agreement with PUK Expected Next Week
The New Generation leader said his party is expected to sign an agreement with the PUK next week. He added that any decisions taken by the alliance would be made in the interest of the people and pledged to oppose what he described as injustice.
Abdulwahid also called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to make compromises if it genuinely seeks to serve the interests of the people and the Kurdistan Region.
Premiership Should Belong to the Alliance
Reaffirming his position, Abdulwahid said the prime minister's post should go to the alliance between the New Generation Movement and the PUK.
KDP 'Does Not Hold a Majority'
During the press conference, Abdulwahid argued that the KDP does not hold a parliamentary majority, noting that the party has 39 seats and therefore, in his view, cannot claim the right to nominate the next prime minister.
His remarks come amid ongoing political negotiations and discussions over government formation in the Kurdistan Region.
