Hiwa Hospital has successfully performed what its director described as Iraq's first complex bone marrow transplant, marking a significant milestone for the country's healthcare sector.

Complex Bone Marrow Transplant Successfully Completed

Dr. Yad Naqshbandi, Director of Hiwa Hospital, announced on Sunday during a press conference that the hospital had successfully carried out a highly complex bone marrow transplant in Sulaymaniyah.

He said the procedure is the first of its kind to be performed in Iraq.

More Than 500 Bone Marrow Transplants Performed

Dr. Naqshbandi said Hiwa Hospital's medical teams have now completed more than 500 bone marrow transplant procedures, describing the achievement as a major milestone for healthcare in the Kurdistan Region.

Hospital Operates on Local Revenue

Dr. Naqshbandi said Hiwa Hospital is funded and operated entirely through the internal revenues of Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

He added that the hospital does not receive the official financial support it requires from the government.
