Iraqi Integrity Commission Arrests Electricity Official Over Alleged Theft of Equipment Worth 4.4 Billion Dinars
Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity has announced the arrest of an official from Baghdad's electricity distribution sector on charges of misappropriating electrical equipment valued at more than 4.4 billion Iraqi dinars.
Investigation Uncovers Alleged Theft
In a statement, the Commission said an audit and investigation team inspected the Ministry of Electricity and found that the head of the warehouses at the Rusafa Electricity Distribution Branch had allegedly misappropriated electrical cables valued at approximately 4.406 billion Iraqi dinars.
The Commission said the arrest was carried out pursuant to a judicial warrant issued by the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court under Article 315 of the Iraqi Penal Code.
According to the statement, authorities prepared an official seizure report before referring the suspect to the competent investigative judge. A detention order was subsequently issued to allow legal proceedings and the investigation to continue.
