Aysegul Dogan, spokesperson for the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), announced that the framework law will be brought swiftly to Parliament's agenda in the coming days, noting that the establishment of the new party will “strengthen” the opposition in Turkey.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Dogan elaborated on the latest developments in the peace process, stating that “important contacts” regarding the process have taken place in recent days. 

She said that in a recent meeting with Abdullah Ocalan, the Imrali Delegation held consultations on the legal framework.

“The framework law is viewed as the beginning of a new phase where significant developments will unfold,” she added. 

Framework Law Finalized to End Legal Uncertainty 

Dogan stressed that the preparations “are being finalized” and that, in the coming days, plans are underway to bring the draft to the parliament's agenda “in the swiftest manner possible.” This legislative push aims for cross-party consensus, incorporating the feedback of various political factions to secure a major political compromise. 

“Even though the framework law has been debated under various names, it will mark the start of a new phase and a series of new legal regulations from our viewpoint,” she highlighted.

The spokesperson emphasized that this initial regulation will serve as a baseline reference for subsequent legislation while eliminating the legal uncertainty that was heavily debated throughout the two-year process. 

Dem Party: Core Law to Launch Broad Democratic Reforms 

Dogan highlighted that the initiative aims to expand democratic politics, strengthen local governance, and address long-standing democratic deficits through judicial reform, freedom of expression, and social-democratic integration. 

“Therefore, all of these must be viewed as mutually reinforcing components of democratization,” she added.

The spokesperson further said that the core law represents the first step in a comprehensive democratization program, serving as a critical legal milestone that opens a new path toward a democratic solution. 

“The law in question also carries critical importance for demonstrating a comprehensive process-driven will that will bring about the continuation of this regulation.”

DEM Party Welcomes Newly Formed Faction 

Regarding the New Party (Yeni Parti), Dogan underlined that “the stronger the opposition in Turkey becomes, the stronger internal democracy becomes as well.” 

The New Party, a major political group, was formed today by former opposition leader Ozgur Ozel alongside 91 members of parliament who split from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). 

She expressed hope that the development would bring success, while wishing for the new party to strengthen the peace process and support the transition toward an equal life.
