A cool air front from southern Europe is moving toward Iraq and the region, causing a break in the intense heat and a drop in temperatures across most provinces.

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced in a statement that meteorological experts predict a “moderate air front from southern Europe will reach Iraq this week”, leading to changes in weather patterns and a decline in temperatures in various areas.

According to forecasts, “temperatures will remain below 50°C nationwide until the end of the month”, which is seen as welcome news for citizens after enduring a wave of extreme heat in recent weeks.

Meteorologists stressed that this cooling is temporary and will last until midweek. By the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise again as the impact of the European front fades.

The cooling effect will be felt most strongly in central, Kurdistan region, and western Iraq, where conditions will turn noticeably milder. However, southern provinces will see little change, with summer heat continuing largely unabated.
