In its meeting last night, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved a series of strategic decisions in the energy, water, and education sectors.

"The most prominent of these was activating the water agreement with Turkey and approving a project to construct an oil pipeline through Syria toward the Mediterranean Sea."

Activating the Water Agreement with Turkey

During the meeting, the Cabinet voted to activate the Iraq-Turkey framework agreement regarding water management and to finance related infrastructure projects. "The deal is set to officially enter into force starting September 1."

Oil Exports Through Syrian Territory

According to the official post-meeting statement, the Cabinet authorized the Managing Director of the Basra Oil Company to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Syrian Ministry of Energy regarding the installation of an export pipeline to the Mediterranean. "The project aims to diversify Iraq’s crude oil export routes and outlets."

Developing the Akkas Field and Assessing Potential

Regarding the Akkas gas field, the Cabinet announced that it authorized the Minister of Oil to sign an MoU with a consortium of companies: CONOCPHILLIPS, TI CAPITAL, and NOVATER. "This agreement initiates discussions to assess exploration and development potential at the Akkas field in western Iraq and its surrounding areas."

Oil Well Drilling in Qaratapa

In related energy decisions, the Cabinet approved a tender for drilling an exploration/production well in the Qaratapa region.

Resolving Allowances for Overseas Students

In the field of education, the Cabinet granted approval to resolve the stipend issues for high-achieving Iraqi students studying abroad. "This covers individuals pursuing their studies under scholarships, fellowship programs, and financial assistance schemes."
