Iraqi judicial authorities have seized an additional 27 billion Iraqi dinars linked to the expanding corruption case of detained former Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili, officials announced Sunday.

The Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court confirmed that the funds were uncovered following financial tracking operations that traced the money to several individuals who had hidden the cash on behalf of the principal defendants.

Additional Seizures and Ongoing Inquiries

According to the investigating judge, the newly recovered funds represent proceeds from embezzled projects and squandered public revenues managed by al-Jumaili and his co-conspirators.

Scope of the Latest Recovery

  • Amount Recovered: 27 billion Iraqi dinars seized in the latest operational phase.
  • Method of Concealment: Cash was distributed across a network of associates to avoid detection by financial intelligence units.
  • Legal Action: Investigators are actively pursuing all individuals who aided in concealing the funds or benefited from the illegal operations.

One of Iraq's Largest Corruption Schemes

Al-Jumaili, who also previously served as Director of the North Refineries Company, was arrested in late May on charges of grand corruption and misuse of public assets.

Judicial sources indicate that confessions obtained during his detention unlocked a vast illicit network involving dozens of high-ranking officials and members of parliament.

Total Assets Recovered to Date

Security agencies and the judiciary have systematically confiscated substantial physical and real estate assets tied to the network, all of which are being transferred back to the state treasury.

  • Cash and Foreign Currency: Over 100 billion dinars and tens of millions of U.S. dollars seized to date.
  • Precious Metals: Dozens of kilograms of gold bullion and jewelry confiscated.
  • Real Estate: Multiple high-value residential and commercial properties frozen or seized under judicial orders.

Judicial authorities emphasized that asset recovery operations remain active as investigators trace remaining financial pipelines associated with the network.
