Iraq’s Commission of Integrity has arrested Saladin Provincial Council member Kamil Abbas over his alleged involvement in a corruption case linked to the disappearance of 400 million Iraqi dinars. The arrest comes as part of a wider anti-corruption campaign targeting employees of the Saladin Governorate Office.

Provincial Council Member Arrested

According to information obtained by Channel8, Kamil Abbas was arrested by the Commission of Integrity in the town of Baiji, Saladin Governorate, on corruption charges.

The case relates to the disappearance of 400 million Iraqi dinars allocated for travel allowances and the alleged forgery of financial receipts during Abbas’s tenure as Deputy Governor of Saladin in 2023.

The arrest follows a broader crackdown by the Commission of Integrity. Last week, arrest warrants were issued for 58 employees of the Saladin Governorate Office, with nearly 30 of them taken into custody so far.

Abbas had already been among those sought by authorities. Four days before his arrest, security forces surrounded his residence but were unable to detain him at the time.

Abbas Denies the Allegations

Following the earlier operation, Abbas issued a statement on his official Facebook page denying the accusations, saying that he is prepared to prove his innocence in court against the evidence presented.
