Iran issued a series of diplomatic statements on Monday, warning Ukraine of consequences over an alleged attack on an Iranian vessel, summoning France's ambassador over what it called interference in its internal affairs, and denying U.S. involvement in ongoing talks with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Warns Ukraine Over Alleged Vessel Attack

Iran's Foreign Ministry warned that Ukraine's reported attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea over the weekend would have consequences.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei described the incident as an "absolutely illegal and unjustified" act that violated the United Nations Charter, calling it a "dangerous act of adventurism" that would not go unanswered.

He said the consequences of Ukraine's actions would be "unforeseen" but did not elaborate on what measures Tehran might take.

French Ambassador Summoned

Iran's Foreign Ministry said it summoned the French ambassador to Tehran on Sunday to protest the conduct of two French diplomats who were briefly detained earlier this month.

According to Baghaei, Iranian officials told the ambassador that France must stop what Tehran described as interference in Iran's internal affairs under "misleading labels." He accused the two diplomats of interfering in domestic affairs under the pretext of engaging with civil society and said their activities were "in no way justified" under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The diplomatic dispute follows comments by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on July 20, who said two French diplomats had been detained by Iranian authorities a day earlier. Barrot described the incident as "an extremely serious act of intimidation," alleging that both diplomats were held for several hours without explanation and interrogated, and that one of them was physically assaulted before being allowed to return to the French embassy.

U.S. Not Involved in Hormuz Talks

Addressing the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei said recent discussions with Oman over the administration of the strategic waterway were strictly bilateral and did not involve the United States.

He said the negotiations between Tehran and Muscat are ongoing and reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz "remains closed."
