The PMF noted in a statement that the “treacherous terrorist attacks” were carried out on Wednesday morning. 

According to the group, the strikes caused multiple casualties and inflicted significant structural damage on several PMF properties.

“We consider this targeting to be a highly dangerous escalation, a violation of Iraq's sovereignty, and a direct targeting of its official security institutions,” the group added. 

The PMF stated that relevant authorities are assessing the situation on the ground as casualty counts and damage assessments continue. 

The group further stated that official updates will be released to the public as further details emerge.

U.S. Central Command announced earlier that its forces, in coordination with Saudi Arabia, conducted precision strikes in Iraq on Tuesday against “Iran-aligned terrorists” directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia previously issued two major formal warnings condemning drone attacks originating from Iraqi territory that targeted its critical energy infrastructure, amid a broader regional conflict involving the United States and Iran. 

The Kingdom formally accused Iran-aligned militias of launching these cross-border strikes against Saudi Aramco facilities in Riyadh and the Eastern Province. 

Saudi officials explicitly warned that Riyadh "reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place" under international law to defend its critical infrastructure.

The attacks come ahead of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi's upcoming visit to Riyadh on Thursday, which is part of a major regional diplomatic tour following his recent stops in Washington, Tehran, and Ankara.

Al-Zaidi reaffirmed that Baghdad strictly rejects the use of Iraqi territory or airspace to launch cross-border attacks against neighboring nations. 

Following Saudi security complaints, he ordered an immediate state investigation and emphasized that all weapons must remain under the exclusive control of official Iraqi security institutions.
