The Coordination Framework said in a statement that during the regular meeting of the Shia political parties, leaders addressed the latest domestic developments on both the governmental and legislative fronts.

The meeting “reviewed the service and security situation in the country and the wider region.” Al-Zaidi, who also attended the meeting, “announced that the formation of the government cabinet will be finalized soon.”

Iraq’s State Management Coalition earlier reached an initial agreement to distribute four Deputy Prime Minister posts among Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish factions. 

Political parties have settled on candidates for the remaining key portfolios, such as Finance, Oil, and Defense. Al-Zaidi plans to finalize the government formation between August 15 and August 25.

Ali Faleh al-Zaidi officially took office following a parliamentary vote on May 14, 2026, which approved a partial cabinet of 14 out of 24 ministerial seats. 

The remaining 10 strategic portfolios, including Defense and Interior, were initially delayed due to intense political disagreements over security control and factional quotas. 

Last week, al-Zaidi directed deputy ministers of the ten unappointed portfolios, including Defense and Interior, to temporarily manage daily operations to ensure government continuity. 

The Prime Minister affirmed that the measure regarding the appointment process “is intended to ensure the smooth functioning of the ministries.”
