A high-level Iraqi security delegation visited Riyadh on the directives of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, following a reciprocal visit by a Saudi delegation to Baghdad last Friday.

The Iraqi delegation met with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in the presence of senior military and security officials.

The discussions focused on bilateral relations, defense and military cooperation, border security, and intelligence coordination.

Sabah Numan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, said the talks emphasized the importance of continued coordination between Baghdad and Riyadh on security and defense issues.

Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, reiterated Iraq’s position that its territory must not be used to threaten neighboring countries or any other state.

He also stressed that Iraq respects the sovereignty of neighboring countries while maintaining that Baghdad will not accept violations of its own sovereignty.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman reaffirmed Riyadh’s continued support for Iraq in the areas of security, stability, and national development.

The two sides also discussed regional border security and the importance of joint efforts to strengthen stability.
