Government Spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi told state-run media Iraqi News Agency that delegation, led by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, after arriving in New York, met with the U.S. Secretary of State, adding that during the meeting, Rubio stressed “Washington's keenness to sustain the relationship with Baghdad and elevate it to a distinguished strategic level."

Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of bridging the bilateral relationship through “economic and investment partnerships,” calling for the attraction of American companies to develop Iraq's oil industry and implement key developmental projects.

Al-Aboudi noted that discussions covered regional developments and their economic impact, stressing Iraq’s commitment to diplomatic solutions that secure global energy supplies and crude oil supply chains.

"Iraq is considered one of the most important countries supplying crude oil to the global market, and the government aspires, according to its vision and program, to raise Iraq's daily production of crude oil to 10 million barrels by the year 2030,” he added.

Al-Aboudi explained that the visit follows up on the Prime Minister's mid-July trip to Washington, which “witnessed the establishment of a new identity for the relationship between the two countries,” especially as the September 30 deadline for the end of the International Coalition's presence approaches.

"Iraq is moving toward transitioning its relationship with the United States from the security dimension to sustainable economic relations,” he added.

Separately, al-Zaidi received Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at his residence to review historical ties and coordinate joint diplomatic efforts aimed at regional de-escalation and strengthening economic and trade cooperation.

Al-Zaidi is scheduled to meet with the U.S. President Donald Trump, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and multiple international heads of state to coordinate regional stability and secure economic investments.
