Turkish authorities have reopened an investigation into the suspicious 2011 prison death of former National Intelligence Organization (MIT) officer Kasif Kozinoglu, with prosecutors examining possible links between the case, prison records and elements of the television series Kurtlar Vadisi.

The investigation has so far resulted in eight arrests, while several people connected to the series have been questioned as witnesses or persons with knowledge of the case.

Investigation Widens

The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating allegations including intentional killing, forming or participating in an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, and violations of Turkey's intelligence legislation.

Among those detained are former Silivri officials who were serving at the prison when Kozinoglu died, former journalist Osman Arslan, and Enver Altayli, who was already serving a sentence in another case. A further suspect, Bayram Ozbek, was arrested on allegations including involvement in the script of Kurtlar Vadisi and incitement to intentional killing.

Kurtlar Vadisi Connection

Prosecutors are also examining the 136th episode of Kurtlar Vadisi, which aired on November 10, 2011 — two days before Kozinoglu died at Silivri Prison.

The episode featured a character named Kazim Kasifoglu, who was held in a prison cell and threatened with death. Prosecutors are examining whether information connected to Kozinoglu's case may have reached the show's production team before his death.

Three series screenwriters, Raci Sasmaz, Bahadir Ozdener and Cuneyt Aysan have been questioned as people with knowledge of the case. Actors Emin Olcay and Sedat Savtak, who played characters in the series, have also given statements as witnesses.

A later episode, broadcast in December 2011, also depicted the death of the Kazim Kasifoglu character through an injection scene, another element being examined by investigators.

Kozinoglu's Grave Reopened

At the request of prosecutors, Kozinoglu's grave has been opened as part of the renewed investigation. Authorities are examining forensic material, including bone and soil samples, and comparing available evidence with prison surveillance records and medical documentation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the suspects have not been established as final court findings.
