Iraq’s Ministry of Finance has launched a new digital platform aimed at changing how major taxpayers complete tax procedures and payments.
Key Statements and Focus Area
- Digital Transformation: "The launch of the system represents a practical step toward modernizing tax administration." — Ministry of Finance.
- Internal Development: "The platform was developed through internal, self-reliant technical efforts." — Finance Minister Faleh al-Sari.
- Focus Area: The first phase of the project focuses on digitizing tax accounting for major taxpayers, with wider expansion planned.
Finance Minister Faleh al-Sari sponsored the launch during a visit to the General Commission for Taxes on Saturday, where several directors-general were also present, according to a ministry statement.
The new platform enables taxpayers to complete tax settlements electronically and make payments without having to visit tax offices in person.
The system also includes digital document archiving, allowing tax records and related documents to be stored electronically. Authorized audit and compliance teams will be able to access filings through secure digital channels.
The ministry said the system is intended to streamline administrative procedures while maintaining oversight of tax obligations and protecting public Treasury revenues.
The project is being introduced in phases. Major taxpayers are included in the first phase, with the system expected to expand later to additional taxpayer categories.
FYI
The digitization of tax administration is intended to move procedures traditionally handled through physical tax offices onto electronic platforms. Such systems can combine filing, payment, document management, and compliance functions within a single digital process.
For Iraq's Ministry of Finance, the project forms part of a wider effort to modernize public financial administration and increase the use of electronic services across government institutions.
