FYI

The Middle East Research Institute (MERI) Forum is an international policy conference held annually in Erbil to convene decision-makers, academics, and diplomats for high-level dialogue on regional stability.

The summit aims to engineer innovative, sustainable solutions for today's most urgent geopolitical, economic, and institutional challenges across the Middle East.

A central focus of this year's forum is the structural overhaul of Baghdad-Erbil relations, moving away from reactive crisis management toward an institutionalized federal partnership.

Senior leaders will assess practical measures to stabilize revenue-sharing mechanisms, clarify regional competencies, and shield public institutions from systemic political paralysis.

Parallel discussions will analyze the domestic challenges facing the Kurdistan Region as it navigates political fragmentation and pursues vital governance reforms.

Panelists will outline strategic pathways for economic diversification away from oil, expanding private-sector growth, and strengthening internal cohesion within the Iraqi federal framework.

Beyond local issues, the agenda addresses broader regional recovery, specifically focusing on state-building, economic statecraft, and post-conflict stabilization across the Levant.

Additional sessions will explore how Iraq can modernize its banking sector and expand regional connectivity to more effectively integrate its energy and financial systems into the global order.
