Shiite leaders meet for Iraqi parliament’s speaker selection

The Shiite Coordination Framework (SCF) convened on Tuesday evening without Hadi Amiri in attendance to discuss the selection of the Iraqi parliament’s speaker.

During the Shiite coordination framework meeting last night to determine the speaker’s post, Hadi Amiri, the Fatah coalition’s leader, did not attend and no explanation was provided to the media.

Additionally this week, a number of Sunni parties gathered without representatives from the Taqadum party, headed by Mohammed Halbusi, and urged for an extraordinary session of the Council of Representatives to deliberate on the speaker’s position.

Mohammed al-Halbousi has been removed from the post of speaker of the House of Representatives by the Federal Supreme Court for four months.
