Iraqi Defense Minister Sabt Mohammed Abbasi arrived in France for a visit to strengthen military relations between the two countries.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, Abbasi was received by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu.

The French minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Iraq in terms of security and military cooperation.

The ministers discussed military training for Iraqi forces, with France expressing readiness for ongoing coordination post the international coalition mission’s conclusion, transitioning to bilateral relations in alignment with the memorandum of cooperation and strategic agreement between Iraq and France.

Following the emergence of the Islamic State (ISIS) and the establishment of an international coalition to counter it, France contributed around 600 troops to the coalition’s efforts in Syria and Iraq.
