109,018 registered in biometric system in Kurdistan Region: IHEC spox

Spokesperson for the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) Jumana Ghalay said on Thursday that 109,018 individuals have registered in the biometric voting system in the Kurdistan Region from February 1 to March 6.

Ghalay told Channel8 that the IHEC has distributed 10,810 voting cards in the Kurdistan Region, with 7,166 distributed in Sulaymaniyah, 2,838 in Duhok, and 806 in Erbil.

She said that a total of 109,018 individuals have registered in the biometric system, with 54,199 in Erbil, 24,347 in Duhok, and 30,472 in Sulaymaniyah.

On March 4, the IHEC extended the deadline for biometric registration for the second time. As per the commission’s decision, March 10 is now the deadline for biometric registration.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani scheduled the parliamentary elections for June 10. And, the commission has announced that the special voting will take place on June 8.
