The Azm Alliance, the Siyada Coalition, and Al-Hasm Al-Watani submitted a memorandum to the leaders of the Coordination Framework, nominating Salem Matar Al-Issawi, an Iraqi parliament member, for the position of Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.

The memorandum, signed by the leaders of the three main Sunni parties, Musanna al-Samarai, Khamis Khanjar and Sabt Isawi, stated their decision to propose MP Salem Matar Al-Issawi for the position of Speaker.

“He is qualified for the position,” they said.

They also urged for the prompt scheduling of the next session of the Iraqi parliament to elect the Speaker.

On November 14, 2023, the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court responded to a complaint by Lays Dlemi by terminating the membership of Mohammed Halbusi, the Speaker of Parliament, and ousting him from office.

Parliament sessions to select a new speaker were repeatedly delayed due to disagreements among the Sunni factions regarding Halbusi’s replacement.
