Hundreds of people in the Jewish community in London blew ram horn shofars and whistles on Sunday in a call to free Israeli hostages captured by Hamas in their attack in October.

The crowd created a chorus on central London’s Abbey Road that lasted for 1 minute and 55 seconds, in order to symbolize the 155 days the hostages have remained in captivity.

About 1,160 people were killed in Hamas’s attack on southern Israel, the majority civilians, according to an official Israeli tally.

Israel launched a campaign against Hamas in response to the attack that has killed more than 31,000 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

Some hostages have been released but about 100 still remain, while 31 are believed dead.

The shofar chorus was a gesture of solidarity with the hostages and their families.

Rabbi Naftali Schiff, the chief executive of the Jewish Futures Trust charity, said the shofar is an object of deep significance in the Jewish tradition and is blown during the holiest times in the Jewish calendar.

Efforts to secure a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful, despite talks with mediators from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt.
