Turkey, Iraq to hold joint security summit in Baghdad

The Turkish Foreign and Defense Ministers, along with the Chief of the National Intelligence Agency (MIT), are set to participate in a security summit in Baghdad tomorrow, as confirmed by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Kecelay, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın will attend the security summit between Iraq and Turkey in Baghdad on the following day.

Turkey has been preparing for an upcoming military initiative against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region for an extended period.

Keçeli emphasized that deliberations concerning their military maneuvers will not be shared with the American authorities.

The Turkish delegation’s visit to Baghdad aims to achieve two main objectives: reinforcing the collaboration between Iraq and Turkey to counter the PKK and securing the backing of both Baghdad and Erbil for the anticipated Turkish military operation in the Kurdistan Region.

Earlier this month, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that a summit would be organized in Baghdad in the near future.
