Russian missiles struck Ukraine’s Black Sea port city of Odesa on Friday, killing more than a dozen, including rescue workers.

Local authorities said Russian bombardments hit residential buildings, ambulances, and a gas pipeline, killing at least 20 people and injuring 73 others.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces launched a double-tap strike on Odesa, with the second projectile hitting rescue workers at the scene.

According to city officials, Russia targeted Odesa with Iskander missiles launched from Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

There was no immediate comment from Russia on the strikes, which came on the first day of presidential elections in Russia. Polling stations have opened in several occupied regions of Ukraine.

A dozen people, including five children, were killed days earlier when a Russian drone hit an apartment block in Odesa.

Kyiv said a Russian drone strike killed two people in the central region of Vinnytsia and that one woman was killed in shelling in the frontline Zaporizhzhia region.

Officials installed by Moscow in the Russian-held city of Donetsk said a Ukrainian attack on a residential area killed three children. Russia said Ukraine began drone and artillery attacks on areas closer to the countries’ shared border.

Russian forces last month captured the city of Avdiivka, north of Donetsk.
