The Turkish Defense Ministry said that the commander of the Turkish Land Forces, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, paid a visit to Turkish army forces stationed along the Turkish-Iraqi border in Şırnak province, southeastern Turkey.

The ministry said in a statement that the purpose of the visit was to closely assess the status of their forces.

It further mentioned that General Bayraktaroğlu held close meetings with commanders and soldiers during his visit.

After a meeting in Baghdad on Thursday, Iraq and Turkey issued a joint statement saying that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has become a threat to the security of both countries.

The statement also mentioned discussions regarding preparations for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Iraq after the month of Ramadan.
