Ukraine said on Sunday it hit two Russian military ships stationed in annexed Crimea in overnight strikes, as it was hit with another night of heavy Russian aerial attacks.

The country’s ally, neighboring Poland, said a Russian cruise missile headed for Ukraine briefly encroached on its airspace overnight after it had put its military on high alert due to intense Russian aviation activity.

“The Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully struck the amphibious landing ships Yamal and Azov, a communications center, and a number of the Black Sea Fleet’s infrastructure sites,” the Ukrainian armed forces’ strategic communications center said Sunday.

Moscow-installed officials in the Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, said their forces had repelled a major Ukrainian aerial attack on Saturday night.

The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said an elderly man was killed and four people injured but did not mention damage to any Russian ships.

Ukraine has claimed to have destroyed about a third of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet since the beginning of the war, usually in night attacks with sea-based drones packed with explosives.

Moscow has recently replaced its navy chief.

Kyiv and the western region of Lviv also came under heavy Russian air attack early on Sunday, according to officials, who did not report any casualties.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia had launched 29 cruise missiles and 28 drones at its territory overnight.

It said it had downed 18 missiles and 25 drones.
