The Iraqi Commission of Integrity said on Friday it has held an investigation that revealed the misappropriation of more than three billion dinars intended for the Agricultural Directorate and the Agricultural Equipment Company in Dhi Qar.

According to the Media and Communication Office, an investigative team determined there was a waste of 1,935,719,494 dinars ($1.5 million), as the result of the directorate’s failure to collect debts owed by farmers for agricultural lease allowances and their noncompliance with collection procedures.

The office also stated the Agricultural Equipment Company was negligent in observing irrigation systems assigned to farmers, in monitoring their function, and in collecting payments to the amount of 1,202,012,969 dinars from farmers.

It noted a team confiscated original invoices linked to the equipment provision.

Invoices for machinery and equipment collected from the General Company for Agricultural Equipment were confiscated and they were based on transactions connected to fraudulent agents without the knowledge of contract owners in 2018.

The team also intercepted 32 transactions related to the provision of harvesters for the General Company for Agricultural Equipment, noting individuals involved in the transactions had unresolved government debts.
