The Oil and Natural Resources Committee in the Iraqi House of Representatives will investigate the increase in fuel prices ahead of hosting the director of the oil production company and then the Iraqi oil minister.

Sabah Subhi, a member of the committee, told Channel8 that there is an attempt by members of Basra’s provincial council in the House of Representatives to summon the oil minister and the director of the oil resources company to investigate why the price of gasoline has risen.

Subhi said the increase in the price of two types of gasoline will not have much impact on the lives of those in poverty because the general public uses government-subsidized gas and if the price of gas and diesel is high, it will have a direct impact on the lives of the public.

The minister will not be invited to the parliament hall in that case but will instead be hosted by a special committee.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers decided to increase the price of Mohassen gasoline from 650 dinars to 850 dinars and the price of Super gasoline from 1,000 dinars to 1,250 dinars per liter.
