Baghdad Operations Commander, Lieutenant General Walid al-Tamimi, said on Saturday concrete barriers will soon be removed from the front of embassies in the Iraqi capital, state media reported.

Tamimi informed Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the majority of barriers, 70 percent, have already been removed from important locations, such as embassies, but there is a wait to organize their removal with the embassies.

He added, there is coordination with the Foreign Ministry and the barriers will be removed in order to not affect traffic.

Tamimi said the crime rate in Baghdad was not significant and there has been an expansion in the use of surveillance cameras, which came under the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, according to INA.
