A candidate with a history of controversial statements lost the Indiana Republican primary in the state’s 8th District. Former Congressman John Hostetler, known for his “non-interventionist” foreign policy and past remarks blaming Jews for the Iraq war, was defeated in the race.

Businessman Mark B. Messmer emerged victorious with 38.5% of the votes, while Hostetler received 19.6%.

The Republican Jewish Coalition celebrated Hostetler’s defeat, committing $1 million to ensure he did not secure the GOP nomination. Norm Coleman and Matt Brooks, leaders of the RJC, declared the outcome a win for the Jewish community and pro-Israel Americans.

They emphasized the importance of holding candidates accountable, pointing to their efforts against Hostetler and other controversial figures like Steve King.

Coleman and Brooks called on Democratic groups to follow the RJC’s example in addressing problematic elements within their own ranks.

They specifically mentioned Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Rep. Cori Bush as politicians who should be held to account for their actions.
