Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani received the highest level of popular approval among Iraqis in 2023, with a majority of Kurdistan citizens satisfied with his performance, according to a poll.

As per a Gallup poll, Sudani earned a strong approval rating of 69% among Iraqis in 2023, marking the highest recorded by Gallup for any Iraqi leader since tracking began in 2012.

Sudani assumed office in October 2022 after years of anti-government unrest, protests and violence.

“Iraqis younger than 30, the driving force behind mass protest movements starting in 2019, are equally as positive about al-Sudani (68%) as older Iraqis are,” the poll revealed.

It further noted that in the Kurdistan Region, 55% of residents approve of al-Sudani’s job performance, in contrast to the 71% approval observed in the rest of Iraq.

According to the poll, Iraqis’ confidence in the police and army rose to 82 percent last year, and confidence in the judiciary system rose to 57 percent, the highest total in over a decade.
