French minister: Paris summons Russian ambassador over Navalny death

French Minister Stephane Sejourne announced on Monday, during his visit to Argentina, that Paris has called in Russia’s ambassador to France in response to the passing of opposition figure Alexei Navalny in a Siberian penitentiary.

“Today, I have requested the presence of the Russian ambassador,” he revealed at a press briefing in Buenos Aires alongside the Argentine Foreign Minister, emphasizing that “Vladimir Putin’s regime has once more revealed its true colors.”

Navalny was Russia’s most prominent opposition leader and garnered a huge following as he campaigned against corruption under President Vladimir Putin.

In the hours following the announcement that her husband had died,  Yulia Navalnaya, who had not seen him in two years, said she held Putin personally responsible.

She called on the international community to “unite and defeat this evil, terrifying regime.”
