Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani announced that 400 students have received scholarships to study abroad at world-renowned universities as the first batch of students from a government scholarship program.

Sudani’s announcement was made during the Ambition and Creativity Forum on Thursday.

The prime minister praised the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in facilitating the sending of the first batch of students from a group of 5,000 in the Iraqi government’s scholarship program.

Sudani stressed that the scholarship program is now based on expertise and skills without political influence and is conducted with transparency.

“We do not want to repeat the past mistakes, when some of the students who were sent abroad did not return home and even caused legal problems for their families. The right way is to return and serve Iraq as an expression of loyalty and social responsibility towards their country,” Sudani said.

The program is part of the Iraqi government’s plan to send 5,000 students on scholarships to leading universities worldwide.
