The Paris mayor’s office denied on Wednesday that security plans for the Olympics were stolen in a bag-snatching incident.

A police source said an employee from city hall had a bag stolen that contained a USB key with plans for the municipal police in the Olympics.

The city said on Wednesday an initial investigation revealed the employee was not in possession of any information pertaining to the organization and deployment of security forces in the Olympics and Paralympics.

It stated the stolen items were personal belongings connected to the employee’s work in IT support for the department of roads and transport.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said the USB key’s information was limited to notes on road transport in Paris during the Olympics and did not possess important security information.

About 35,000 security forces are expected to manage crowds and prevent crime during the Olympics from July 26 to August 11.

The city employee will face an investigation to determine if any security rules were breached by traveling with the USB key.
