United States Embassy in Baghdad Condemns Drone Attacks on Kurdistan Region Oil Fields, Urges Iraqi Government Action
The United States has condemned the recent wave of drone attacks across Iraq, including the July 14 and 15 strikes targeting critical infrastructure at the Khormala and Sarsing oil fields in the Kurdistan Region.
In a statement released by the United States Embassy in Baghdad, Washington called on the Government of Iraq to take decisive action against armed groups responsible for such attacks.
“The Government of Iraq must exercise its authority to prevent armed actors from launching these attacks against sites within its own territory, including locations where Iraqi and international companies have invested in Iraq's future,” the statement said.
The Embassy emphasized that the attacks are "unacceptable," warning that they undermine Iraq’s sovereignty and damage efforts to attract foreign investment. The U.S. also urged the Iraqi government to investigate the incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
