Two people have been killed and major infrastructure damaged after heavy rains triggered severe flooding in the town of Chamchamal on Monday, forcing the closure of the main road linking Kirkuk and Chamchamal.

Floodwaters Rise Up to One Meter

According to Channel8 reporting teams, the floods have damaged numerous homes and businesses, with water levels rising to nearly one meter in several neighborhoods. Several vehicles were also submerged or swept away by the strong currents.

Road Between Kirkuk and Chamchamal Closed

Authorities closed the Kirkuk–Chamchamal road due to unsafe conditions, causing significant traffic disruption and congestion across the area. Emergency teams continue working to clear debris and assess damage.

Local officials confirmed that two residents died during the flooding, including one whose home collapsed under the pressure of rising water. Rescue teams remain deployed across the area to support affected families.
